I’ll stick around, especially after this post. I agree with you that women are being taken advantage of in various ways. I tend to believe that society has not helped much either. Even some of the songs on the radio, specifically some rap music, knowingly objectifies women. I’ve run across some men who want a lady on the streets, but someone completely different in the bedroom. I think that if women were treated better and knew they were appreciated for more than just sex, they might be more open to…..(insert whatever).

I think you’re right, it would be pretentious to correct typos in someone’s tweets; we all do it all the time. But in books, that’s a different thing. It interferes with the magic of ‘the suspension of disbelief’. As in: ‘Honey,’ he said. ‘You’re so beautiful, I want to make lvoe to you.’ (!)

When we speak, we seldom use proper English, and most personal correspondences are on the same level as conversations. That is just my opinion on it.

But if you’re being paid to write, then you’re fair game.

Comment on Erosion by nickshamhart http://nickshamhart.com/2012/06/07/erosion/#comment-128 Fri, 08 Jun 2012 16:12:49 +0000 http://nickshamhart.com/?p=366#comment-128 Thank you, Jay. I have to tell you most days the lines between metaphor and reality seem to blur for me. Does that help my writing? Perhaps, but for the most part I think it just makes me tired.

Carried to its logical conclusion of being ultimately worn down and carried away by the sea, we are led to the tragic metaphor. Is it inevitable that the world destroys the individual? How very existential … if so.

I am not subscribing to your site out of the same courtesy. You have intriguing subject matter, posts, your bio, some scary tats and a series I am fascinated by. I want to sample all of them–well, with the exception of your tats. Definitely not your tats! As soon as I’ve satisfied my appetite and obligation for the other books I’ve downloaded to my kindle, I shall purchase either “Grey” or “Raven”. Until then, best of luck with your writing–though I don’t think you’ll need it.

Comment on Creative Writing: 101 with Professor Nick by Mad Chad Knauer http://nickshamhart.com/2011/11/05/creative-writing-101-with-professor-nick/#comment-27 Sat, 05 Nov 2011 23:15:12 +0000 http://nickshamhart.com/?p=163#comment-27 She gazed at Jennifer Lopez with pure disgust. Reese Witherspoon took another sip from her glass of Cognac hoping the brandy would soothe the burning taste of bile creeping up to her gullet.

It has become their annual tradition to take an incognito hiatus to a GWAR concert. Some would be surprised to know that a group of Hollywood’s A-listers flocked to a seedy club to be bathed in the putrid stench of a thrash metal shock rock band known for saturating their fans in fake blood and bodily fluids. This is the ninth trip for the girls. As far as Reese was concerned, It would be her last show, and it was all J-lo’s fault.

Shortly before leaving , Jennifer Aniston had told Reese what J-Lo had said about Kate.

Diabetes ran strong in Kate Middleton’s family. Fatigue brought on by type 2 diabetes caused Kate to miss the last two concerts, as well as this one.

J-Lo’s imitation of Wilford Briley’s “diabeetus” comercials was not only poor, but was in poor taste. kate has spent the last two months in the
hospital due to her disease. What right does J-lo have to mock their friends illness?

The Limousine turns the final corner into the city. They pull up to a group of protesters waving signs in front of the concert venue. At first Reese thought they were picketing the GWAR performance, but in fact they are outraged about how the NBA lockout has been affecting local businesses . As the girls disembarked the limo J-low points at a very portly protester “Maybe kate should ask this fat bastard about how he keeps his diabeetus in control?”

This was the last straw for Reese. She shoves J-lo from behind. Jennifer Lopez lets out a yelp and falls face first into the street, legs and arms akimbo. Her pants tear with an audible RIIIP exposing her Hello Kitty panties to the crowd on the sidewalk.

J-lo’s face turns to anger as the crowd of onlookers erupt with laughter. The laughter does not last long. The laughter becomes gasps as the city transit bus comes into view. The gasps become screams of terror when the bus is unable to stop in time. Jennifer hold out her hand and cries out to no avail as the 15 ton vehical cleaves the poor girl in two.

Tatum Channing hysterically sobs as police and security swarm to Reese.

“WHAT… HAVE… YOU…. DONE!!!” Tatum manages to bellow out between blubbering sobs.

As police handcuff Reese she looks at Tatum and smiles.

“You should tell Kate about Jennifer’s new weight loss program.”

This is the best I could do with what I had. The 10 “trending now” words I got sucked almost as bad as my story. :)
